Assisting someone with their computer is easy to do when using NetMeeting.
 
Follow the outlined steps below on how to setup NetMeeting and then use it.
 
First make sure that no other programs are open. You will be able to open them once NetMeeting has started.
To use NetMeeting you will have to go to
Start
Run => in the Open text box enter “conf”
If NetMeeting is used for the first time you will get the following wizzard:

select next
On the 2nd screen have them enter their name only and NA for all the other fields
On the Third Screen leave as is:
On the 4th screen have the person select the appropriate connection speed:
On the 5th screen have the person uncheck both checkboxes:

On the 6th screen just click next:

On the 7th screen just click next again:

On the 8th screen just select next:
On the 9th screen select next (ignore the message):
On the 10th screen select finish:
NetMeeting will now load:
Next you will need to have the person go to www.whatismyip.com
Next you will need to have the person give you his IP address:
You will then need to enter his IP address in the following location (left next to the telephone icon):
 
Once you have entered the IP address press the telephone icon:
The party on the other end will have to press the “Accept” button on a window which will appear on his screen (usually located on the bottom right side of the screen):
You will see your name and his name appear in the Name Box.
Next, the person you will be supporting will have to press the bottom left icon (the one with the hand underneath a white box, if you hover over the icon with the mouse it will read Share Program)

Next they will need to select the desktop entry from the left screen box and press the share button which now will be active:

If you just want to monitor then have the person close the window.
If you want to be able to “CONTROL” the other computer the person will have to press the “Allow Control” button and select allow control automatically:
Now he can press close:
To take control you now must go to Control and select request control:
To end control, the supported person just has to press any button on his keyboard or you select release control from the “control” menu:

To end the sharing just close NetMeeting.
 
This is a great tool and is buil into all versions of Microsoft Windows starting with Windows 95.
