Let's start with the obvious advantages of using branded hardware from major manufacturers. You get the:
- Brand Name
- reputation
- 24/7 support
- replacement
- on site installation
NOTE: This page is fairly long but you will be glad to have read it. In the long run you will have saved yourself a lot of headaches OR got directly to our Computer Recommendations
Of course, there are also some drawbacks to such IT investments. If the purchased equipment breaks down, you will have to spend hours on the phone with the producer's tech support. While tech support does its best to communicate with the average computer user, there are still many things that get misunderstood. So more and more clients have called us in to deal with tech support people on the phone on their behalf. We first assess the issue(s) and then call the support with an informed knowledge-base about the situation. But tech support can be stubborn. They have a protocol to follow. Even though we have given the answer to the problem and de facto done part of their work.
What we want to point out here is that purchasing from a major brand can actually end up being fairly costly in the long run. We are not saying that you will have problems with all the equipment. Unfortunately it often only takes a troublesome PC to wipe out a lot of the savings.
In our opinion, purchasing from a major brand is only beneficial if you have an in-house staff to order, setup and maintain your IT equipment. If you are a small to medium-size business (5 to 25 PCs) you will probably not have an on-site IT person. You will more than likely have an outside firm such as WebMakers Inc. in to assist you with the operations of your IT environment.
We have found that clients had to pay, not just for the initial extended warranty for their purchases, but in the end also needed an outside firm to help them get the major brands to actually warrant it. Too often, in our experience, we have seen SMBs being taken advantage of because of their "average IT skills".
The solution that WebMakers Inc. offers is that we supply IT equipment to the clients directly. This way we have control over what hardware the client receives and we also warrant that hardware. So you can see that we have a vested interest in making sure that such hardware does not fail within the expected usage time. So ,you could say, do the major brands too. Yes, they also have a vested interest. But have you read through their terms and conditions? I would invite you to. Most people who had to deal with the tech support on the more serious issues will have a few nice stories of their own to tell. EG.: "Sorry but that is our company policy" is one of the favourites.
So how is WebMakers Inc. different? First of all we serve a small group of clients. This means that every client is important to us. The bigger the company the smaller the importance of the individual client becomes. That is just a fact. So because we are ourselves a small enterprise we can relate to the needs of other small enterprises. Therefore we offer 24/7 support with no complicated contract - you call us aqnd we come for $ 100.00 an hour. No first hour double and all those other special fees if the problem happens other then 9-5.
Furthermore, if we sell a PC to you, then we will warrant it for the time specified. During that time, if there are any technical difficulties with the PC we will fix them free of charge. So instead of calling us in to deal with the major brands and have to pay us, we fix it for free. Now obviously this covers only the hardware. If the software acts up then it is time to go to Microsoft for support :).
We base our service on fairness. And Microsoft bugs are not part of the warranty. But any hardware goes as long as you do not abuse it because Windows was driving you up the wall! We, of course, will fix that too but not as an issue related to the "hardware failing due to defects".
We pride ourselves in putting really nice Business PCs together. They are built to last and to deliver what you need at a budget you can afford. Especially if you take the long term savings into account, the initial cost of a serious Business PC is actually really worth it. The cost usually starts at around $ 1800.00 for the tower when, granted, you can get the whole set for $800 from Dell. But keep in mind that is their first offer. Once you add all the things you need, the PC will cost you more than that. So make sure you compare apples to apples.
As you can see, we really do love what we are doing. So give us a call and we will be glad to discuss these issues with you. And when you have discovered that we really do know what we are talking about, we will be more than happy to set you up with one of those wonderful PCs.
